If I "want" a beer..is that "lust"?
by The Dragon insomeone on another forum was asking.."why is lust a sin"?.
like they knew the universal definition of the word or something,.. if i want something like a beer...is that "lust"?
if so is it a sin to "want" something?.

Is lust actually a sin? Or does it depend on what you're lusting after? If you lust after your neighbour's wife, he probably won't like it. In fact, if you lust after HIS beer, he might not like it. But .... if you lust after the beer in the beer store, the store owner would almost certainly like it! Unless, of course, you don't intend to pay for it.

How do you feel about "Ultimate fighting?"
by free2beme inbecause i turned a lot of attention to martial arts, after leaving the witnesses, i got a lot of connections with people in the martial arts and fighting world.
i have sense stopped training, after many years and black belts.
what do you think of this fighting, do you like it?

Quandry,
The same can be said for any sporting activity. My nephew was in hockey as a child and is going to suffer for the rest of his life from injuries sustained. Him and myriads of others. Sports push the body to its maximum and beyond. Injuries are the result. In my opinion, holding one up as worse than the others usually comes down to personal taste. People can overlook and justify the injuries in the sports they enjoy, but condemn the ones they don't.

We used to watch UFC. It was interesting to see the different styles of training coming against each other. I do wonder whether it's a true picture of what works and doesn't work though. In the martial arts I've trained in the emphasis was on maiming or killing as quickly and efficiently as possible (with bare hands or whatever is at hand for a weapon). These strikes obviously cannot be allowed in a "friendly match". In fact, that's the reason why there's also such a heavy emphasis on discipline and non-aggression.

None yet. Just starting. I think we only have 8 to change. The rest change themselves. But thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the welcome, becca1. Personally, I don't mind you posting that here. What you described is what I observed also. Not a group I'd want to see running anything. And I also agree with what you say about responsibility. Under WTS theology, the annointed were suppose to set the proper example.

"Whatever."
by bebu injust a few minutes back, a middle-aged woman and a young teenage girl were on my doorstep.
the new tract was being delivered!
i looked thru the screen door at it and said i did not want it, as i already knew what it might contain.

I guess they don't use the "Reasoning from the Scriptures" book anymore. *insert sarcasm* It was supposed to help the JWs overcome ANY objection. And I don't remember "whatever" being the answer for anything.

Thank you for the welcome, Baba. I've been lurking here on JWD for about three years now. My wife has been posting for awhile. She finally told me I had to get my own account. She said she was going to start looking like a split-personality if she said for me what I wanted said.
I've enjoyed reading everyones experiences and thoughts. I still have relatives and aquaintance who are JWs, so I like to keep up on the latest WTS happenings too.
